Shoot Dairy- Day 4

Today we filmed two scenes. The first one was near a lane, we used a long shot and mid shot of the character who is playing B.O.B. I filmed it from having a point of view shot, a long shot which then after pans and the last shot we did was. a handheld, over the shoulder shot. We show the character playing B.O.B walking out of a lane, walking over to see someone, receiving a package in the bag and walking away again. We used this as we thought that the audience would be intrigued about what was in the bag.
The second scene we did was outdoors, the narrative of this shot shows drug dealing. We film a close up of the character playing B.O.B face, we had an extreme closeup of the drug exchange, i filmed a mid-shot of B.O.B's character who is waiting against a wall, we used a panning shot when the artist walked down the stairs and a long shot to show the artist in his environment.

Shoot Dairy -Day 3

On our third location shoot we used the resources outside of college again the spot we chose was a brick wall with a crack going through it. We decided to use this because we felt like this gave more of an urban look which created more realism for the audience. We used three different shots; the first one was a mid shot of the artist, the second was a close-up of the artist and the third shot we used was tilt-up, close-up of the artist, We used the tilt-up close-up as we realised that this was used in real media conventions of the Hip-hop and Grime genre.

Shoot Dairy- Day 2

Today Waqar and I filmed Lakeem who is playing the character of Giggs. We have taken him to a music studio and filmed him. The purpose of this is to show him in the studio making the song, so the audience is aware of this. This is used a lot in music videos from both the genres of Hip-Hop and Grime. We have recorded him coming into the studio meeting his producer, we have show this from two point of views; one is him opening a door watching him enter the studio, open another door and have a hand shake with his producer, this a long shot which changes into a mid-shot when the character of Giggs; Lakeem walks closer towards the camera, the camera is still throughout . The other point of view is in the studio room with his producer and shows it from another angle. This shot only shows him opening a door and a handshake with his producer, this is a mid shot. We also have a close up on the 'recording' sign, which is still. It shows the light on and the light turning off, which we intend to use at the start and end of the video. We have filmed him continuously throughout the song which we are then editing and cutting out. We have also tried two different shots of this one is a closeup of lakeem through another recording booth which shows him rapping and also showing body movement from Lakeem. We have also recorded an other part in which it shows the producer and the artist. For the mise en scene we have used dark lighting in the producers booth and more light in the artists booth because it makes the artist stand out more. We have also used baggy jeans, hoodie, hat (new era).

Shoot Dairy- Day 1

In our first shoot the location was in Oldbury Court Park. We arranged for a 4x4 Range Rover to be used in the video. We used this as this is commanly used in Hip-hop and Grime videos. This type car will make the artist seem more dominating and wealthy. We filmed a range of long, panning and tracking shots. The costume we used a red jacket and red hat, we used this to challenge convention which are used in real media texts.

Clothing

From looking at real media text I have acknowledged that the types of clothing that are worn by Hip-hop and Grime artists are usually dull colours but I want to challenge real media that is why I wanted to add a bright red colour.

Giggs & Skepta – Look out

The first scene is of a group of black boys outside a council estate. You hear a drum roll then he starts MCing. It shows the two different artists set in different locations. One of the locations is set in the night and the other in the day one has the typical convention of a black man being a ‘gangster’.
They use camera shots such as:
· Canted angle
· Sudden zoom out
· Sudden zoom in
· Panning
· Hand held shots (moving left to right)
In the video the music stops and the audience can hear the diegetic sound of the artist speaking explaining where he is going the next. They have expensive white cars, which they are driving at night this contrasts the black of the night and matches the artist clothes, which are black and white. There is also a red car which is behind the white expensive car this shows the importance and authority of the people in the white car.
The two artists, costumes are very casual they are representing the name of his group on his tee shirt. They are both wearing black and white.
Skepta has a scene where there are a lot of children surrounding him, this connitates that he also grew up in the same environment.

About Us

We are Pistol Whipped Productionz and we are best described as an internet production entertainment company, founded by Media Moguls; Asha Akbar, Aqib Malik, and Waqar Nawaz. It all started in a media lesson with the production of a music video and has advanced to the popularity of over 13,000,000 upload views and this figure rises rapidly on a daily basis.Pistol-whipping is the act of using a handgun as a blunt weapon, wielding it as if it were a club or blackjack. Our Aim is to metaphorically Pistol Whip all the competitors in our genre, and become the number one production entertainment company.

Friday 17 September 2010

In the music video I will need to use camera movements such as:
  • Establishing shots- To show the locations and 'The Streets' where they live and what they are talking about when the artists says "don't come around here"
  • Tilt Up- This makes the people in the video seem more intimidating and supirior.
  • Panning- To show what location the video is set in.
  • Close up- To show emotions on the peoples face
  • Long shot- To show how the people are standing and there body language.

T Target

You need to make sure that you analyse (textually) music videos that are similar to the one that you have chosen. Remember to look at mise en scene, camera shots/angles/movement, editing.
Ideally you would analyse at least three and then create a list of conventions based on your analysis which then you would relate to your own project.

Where we will be shooting

The locations we will be filming in are:
  • St Pauls
  • Easton
  • St Marks Road
  • Kingswood
  • Fishponds
  • Eastville

The purpose of us filming in these locations is the songs itself is talking about 'the streets'. These locations are sterotypically the most roughest areas in Bristol. These type of locations support the genre of music.

What song we are using.

We have chosen a song that we are going to use we will need to ask for permission to use it the songs is from the artist: Giggs featuring B.o.B
Here are the lyrics from the songs:

[B.O.B - Chorus]

Copyright

We have decided to use a song consisting of two artists. One is a UK Grime artist and the other is a Hip-hop artist. I think this is a good choice of song as we are planning of having our music video sub-genre. The song we are planning to use is Gigg's featuring B.O.B- 'Don't Go There'
I am aware of the copyright laws against music so I have sent them an email regarding them allowing us to have permission to use it.

Friday 3 September 2010

Artists

As we are using Hip-Hop/UK Grime artists I have found some artists that we can consider using and ask for permission to make a music video they are:
  • Kano
  • Giggs
  • Wiley
  • Dizzee Rascal
  • Flirta D
  • Tinchy Stryder
  • N-Dubz
  • Lethal
  • Tinnie Tempah
  • Roll Deep Crew
  • Skepta
  • Jme
  • Griminal
  • Sway
  • Lowkey
  • Wretch 32
  • Ghetts
  • Boy Better Know

Planning

Practical Production.
Me and my partner have decided to produce a music video and a digi pack. The digi pack will consist of:

  • Poster

  • Front cover of album

  • Inlays of album

  • Back cover of album

We have decided to use the sub-genre of Hip-hip and Grime. We think this would be challenging and interesting to create, as usually Grime videos and Hip-hop videos have a twist to the narrative in a music video.

What Im Doing?

I am not sure of what I want to do yet as all of the options seem like they will be challenging and fun. I will research into the ones I am interested in and that will help me make my mind up and will give me more in depth look and will help towards my practical piece.
When I look into film trailer I know that I will have to think of a whole film and then take scenes out of it and make sure they look interesting to the audience they need to be able to make the audience understand some of the story but not too much that they know all the story line.
Where as when I look at short film I know that I will need to fit a lot of content into a short space of time. I know that the camera movement will be changing all of the time and I need to use interesting camera shots.
If i choose to make a music video I will need to think of a narrative to the music video and I would like it certain aspects to resemble the conventions in the music genre that I will be using, I would need to have interesting shots and make sure the scene doesn't last for long as I want the audience to enjoy it.

Reserch On Music Vidoes

I have researched music videos on YouTube we seen how different genres of music use different lighting and shots. The hip-hop music genre use the camera tilted up because it shows the artist/actor to be higher and superior, where as indie genres use the camera on a face to face level to show equality. Hip hop videos tend to use dark lighting. Their isn't makeup used in the hip hop genre; in contrast to pop videos where there was a lot of make up. In hip hop and videos they tend to use big mansions and locations of a high standard reinforcing their wealth where as in grime videos they shoot on streets and in unpleasant buildings showing that they have a rough lifestyle. I have realised that in grime video the costume that males tend to wear are, dark colours in which the audience cannot see any brand names and tend to have large chains. In hip hop videos they tend to show brand names and have bright colours so the audience are aware of their wealth.

Technical Creativity

In the lesson we had a task to film on the theme of suspicion and we didn't use any editing, we needed to use the camera effectively. We filmed Himilay trying to break into a car and Matt and I spotted him. We used techniques such as
  • Point of view shots
  • Discovery shots
  • Over the shoulder shots
We had 5-10 minutes to complete the tasks. I learnt from this that not all creativity is done using editing and will make me think about camera shots and how to use the camera effectively in my practical production.
